Breast Cancer Risk-
Should I get screened?

Screening mammography is less sensitive in younger women due to increased breast density and as a result the Cambridge Breast Clinic plans to introduce new and innovative tests that may help to improve breast cancer detection in younger women.

Cambridge Breast Clinic offers individualised breast screening packages based on age and family history.
In general:

  • Women aged 40-49 are eligible for screening mammography every year.
  • Women aged >50 years are eligible for screening mammography every two years.
  • Women aged 35-46 with a close family history of breast cancer should have
    yearly mammography.

Should I see a breast specialist?

A number of breast signs or symptoms can be associated with a diagnosis of breast cancer. If you have any of the following conditions please arrange an appointment at one of our one-stop breast clinics:

  • Solitary breast lump
  • Altered shape or contour of the breast
  • Nipple retraction or inversion
  • Blood-stained nipple discharge
  • Nipple eczema
